The Storm Is Coming. Head for the Hills!

So we got gay marriage in Iowa and Vermont. This is exciting, but guys, we really need to calm it down. Apparently all of our excitement is causing a storm to be a brewin’. A gay storm. And it’s not one filled with rainbows, but with disaster for heterosexual families across the nation.

Shame on you, homosexuals. You caused these poor actors to stand in front of a green screen and pretend they’re from places like Massachusetts and California (the lowliest of states!). What’s more, the ad campaign is costing this organization $1.5 million. Think of how many heterosexual marriages could be using that money for cake and bachelorette parties in Boys’ Town! I hope you hang your head in shame, homosexuals. This is despicable.

Wow what a hypocritical statement at the end, paraphrased ” a rainbow coalition of every color and creed are coming together in LOVE”. The basis of this ad campaign is based purely on hate and discrimination. This ad proved nothing in the sense of their lives being infringed upon by government or by Human Rights organizations, just vague language.

My life has been controlled by government in the sense I cannot marry, I am still not protected by federal law from hate crimes, my life has been controlled by society in the sense I was scared to come out, I was scared to hold a guys hand or to even kiss a guy in the public eye. We are forced to see heterosexual love on tv shows and in movies, but homosexual love in those avenues is still being seen as risky. I am sick of people who try to play the victim when clearly they are not.

I have not seen Canada, or South Africa, or even Massachusetts or Connecticut implode because of gay marriage or equal rights.

I am hopeful the backward views of society will soon be seen as they truly are, and I hope this storm does some damage.

I am afraid. They’re going to take my right to discriminate away! Now I will only be allowed to hate and be intolerant! They are taking away my legal right to be legally better than someone else! How horrible! Now I can only feel superior to other people in my head, rather than in the law!

Truly here, there is seriously something we as a community must address emphatically. The general premise behind this ad is that states that legalize Marriage Equality will turn into fascist thought-police state that turn everyday people’s opinions and beliefs into thought-crimes. This ad does a really good job of scaring people who wouldn’t know better into believing this. We need to get out there right now and talk about how we do want people to keep their beliefs, and that Marriage Equality is NOT about religion, but about Equal Protection under the law. If we want religious marriage–guess what–WE CAN ALREADY GET IT! Churches everywhere will bless same-sex commitments. If a church didn’t want to bless MY marriage, I wouldn’t WANT to go to that church. FUCK THEM! They can keep their beliefs. I want to go somewhere where I’ll be WELCOMED AND CELEBRATED.

Rather than bitch and bemoan the fundies all the time, we have to spend SOME of our time reassuring the religious right that we honestly don’t care what they believe and what goes on in their homes, we just want BASIC rights, and we are QUITE content to let them continue on in their merry little way. We DON’T want to invade their homes and churches and take over their lives as this ad insinuates, and we need to be emphatic about the language that we use to that effect. WE DON’T WANT THOUGHT POLICE. PERIOD. You leave me alone, and I’ll leave you alone, just STOP making me be a SECOND CLASS CITIZEN. I DESERVE a place at the table, even if its not YOUR table. They can have their beliefs. They ARE entitled to them, and I wish them well. WE are entitled to this, and someday it will be ours–and the sun will continue to shine, and the birds will continue to chirp, and the rivers won’t run red with blood or anything.

So, from the pictures here, I gather you’re asking Lyndon to dress as Storm for Halloween?

These people are morons. They don’t want to think new thoughts. Thoughts are apparently painful and scary things, comparable to storms. Their “rainbow coalition” of different bodies thinking one, uniformly hateful thought is a laughable parody of true diversity. The “freedom” they think is being violated is the freedom to have legally sanctioned bigotry. Fuck them, I say. Fuck them. This poisonous message should be derided and denounced by every honest and compassionate soul. Also, note how this “storm” analogy taps into apocalyptic thought: “The storm is coming.” This sort of fear-mongering is the stock and trade of those who use emotion to manipulate the masses.

I really wanted to post that picture of you in my house wearing it but I thought it would involve so many more copyright issues than the ones I’d get with Marvel. major woof.

I’m guessing that the first dude to speak in the ad is a homo. It’s in the lisp and the carefully exfoliated face.

I’m confused. How is allowing gay marriage going to apparently destroy the rest of the world? How is this taking freedoms away from others? Am I missing something here?
