Hello and welcome to the virgin post of the Highlight Real, the blog that makes ESPN look like TSN. Most of you are probably disappointed that the Bronx Bombers have won yet another title. Most of you, however, are not Yankee’s fans. I myself had the distinct pleasure of being born in Manhattan and residing there for seven years, giving me legitimacy whenever I don the pinstripes. It’s been nine years since the Yankees won the world series, and this begs the question: What made this Yankees team better than those of the last few years? The answer: Lots and lots of money. C.C Sabathia, Mark Texiera and A.J Burnett brought the Yankees payroll up to a whopping $208,097,414 a year. Still, the New York Mets have the second highest team payroll in the MLB (145,367,987) and they didn’t even make the play-offs, proving that money can’t buy you success, unless you spend it on the right people. Still, even with his enormous 15 million dollar ego boost of a contract, C.C Sabathia was not the best pitcher to take the mound during the series. That distinction was held by Cliff Lee, who went undefeated in the postseason with a 1.56 ERA. It is my prediction that Lee will win the Cy Young next year, due to the Phillies run support and the emotional boost that comes with playing for a winning team. Congrats to Matsui, who was one triple away from hitting for the world series cycle, a feat never before completed. Also, big ups to Derek Jeter for getting his fifth World Series Championship of his 14 year career. In other sports news, some teams just seem unbeatable as the Saints are still undefeated, (as is my fantasy football team) Florida remains loss-less atop the BCS polls, and the Boston Celtics have started off the year 6-0, holding all their opponents under the 90 point mark. These issues, however, will be discussed at a later time. Take care, sports fans, and as basketball season is just starting, get down on some lay-ups.
