Moby Announces New Album “Wait For Me”

posted by Justin at 9:27 am.

-Mute Records

Mute is set to release Moby’s new album ‘Wait For Me’ on June 30th. The video for the album’s debut track, ‘Shot In The Back Of The Head’, is an animation directed by David Lynch. Watch it here.

A completely DIY effort, Moby recorded the album in his home studio, drew the album artwork with a black sharpie on copy paper, asked his friends to record the vocals, and asked another friend, photographer Jessica Dimmock, to take the press photos.

In addition, friend Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Throbbing Gristle, M83) came on board to help mix the record: “mixing the record with him was really nice, as he’s creatively open to trying anything - like recording an old broken bakelite radio and running it through some broken old effects pedals to see what it would sound like. it’s on the record as a :45 second long track called ’stock radio’“. Moby and Thomas mixed the record using purely analog equipment in true stereo, akin to how records were mixed in the late 60’s. As a result, the songs sound pretty amazing on headphones.

On Wednesday April 15th a free download of “Shot in the Back of the Head” will be available on Moby’s website at www.moby.com.

Cool.

Tiny Masters of Today “Skeletons”

posted by Justin at 2:14 pm.

Tiny Masters of Today premiered a new video for ‘Skeletons’, the title track from their new album out June 16th on Mute Records. Check it!

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

At just 15 and 12 years old respectively, Tiny Masters of Today’s Ivan and Ada have earned some serious indie rock credentials. The band’s 2007 debut landed them praise from David Bowie, who called their homemade single “genius”, CSS and Liars remixed them, and they recorded w/ Kimya Dawson and Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O and Nick Zinner.

Their sophomore return “Skeletons” is out June 16th and picks up where their debut left off - 11 frantic, punk-informed tracks written and produced by Ada and Ivan in their native Brooklyn.

I wish there were parties like this when I was 12:

‘Who Killed Harry Houdini?’ OUT TODAY

posted by Justin at 7:14 pm.

Source: Mute

“Prepare to shout along: I’m From Barcelona’s sophomore release ‘Who Killed Harry Houdini’ is out today. Listen to the full album on AOL Spinner here.

The 20+ member Swedish group led by Emanuel Lundgren burst on the scene in 2007 with ‘Let Me Introduce My Friends’, which introduced a songwriter with a penchant for crafting colorful indie pop that turned seemingly small topics like wearing glasses, oversleeping, and collecting stamps into upbeat sing-alongs.

Like many things Swedish – Ikea, Jose Gonzalez, spas, and fish – we were hooked. And so were critics. Pitchfork promptly labeled it “Best New Music,” Rolling Stone called it “pretty damn charming,” and New York Times described their confetti-filled Lollapalooza performance as “euphoric.”

In addition, the band are holding a remix competition of new song “Music Killed Me.” Visit myspace.com/imfrombarcelona for complete details, submissions must be received by November 3rd.

Paper Planes is their standout single. Watch the video here via Youtube and listen to the track here via Hypem.

Hercules and Love Affair Announce New Tour

posted by Justin at 5:02 pm.

source: Mute

Hercules and Love Affair announce their headlining North American fall tour in support of their smash self-titled album (out now on Mute/DFA). The band’s performances have garnered universal acclaim for their seamless blend of traditional and electronic instruments and their ability to transform venues and festivals into uninhibited dance parties . The North American tour includes dates with Mos Def (San Francisco), The B-52s and James Murphy (NYC).

The eight piece live band includes Andy manning keyboards, drum machines and providing backing vocals, a horn section, Kim Ann and Nomi on lead vocals, live drums, live bass and even more keyboards.

Both the album and lead single, “Blind”, debuted in the UK Top 40 and were ranked #1 and “Track of the Week” by the NME. The second single, “You Belong” was released on September 2 and features remixes by the UK’s Riton of the Gucci Sound System, Detroit techno originator and legend Kevin Saunderson of Inner City and legendary Chicago House producer Derrick Carter. The band’s debut show at Brooklyn’s Studio B and their recent NYC show at the Fillmore East received raves across the board and sold out quickly. The Fall tour presents a rare chance to see an exciting and innovative band that never sacrifices the fun.

Remix Wednesday #5

posted by Justin at 4:21 pm.

Shakedown - At Night (Alan Braxe Remix)
Midnight Juggernauts - 45 and Rising (Cut Copy remix)
Big Gipp - Hot (Treasure Fingers Remix)
Hercules & Love Affair - You Belong (Riton Remix)
MSTRKRFT - Bounce (Felix Cartal Remix)

Felix Cartal’s remix of ‘Bounce’ is out. Personally I dig the Mansion rework I posted last Wednesday a lot more, but you decide. Definitely check out the Riton remix of Hercules and Love Affair and always listen to anything put out by Alan Braxe. There’s some exiting stuff coming soon. I have some interviews lined up, a review of the Cut Copy/Presets show tonight at the Metro, and have been contacted by Muse Records to do some promotional work for their upcoming Chicago shows. Stay tuned.
