Coming Up: Pitchfork 2009 Wrap Up

posted by Justin at 2:29 am.

Pitchfork Music Festival was over the weekend in Union park in Chicago. I’ll have a write up of some of the bands I liked and some photos in the next few days. I tried to get to as many bands as possible. Overall I think the festival went pretty smoothly, besides Wavves being Wavves and not getting off stage, and all the bands sounded great - although I’m sorry, Pains of Being Pure At Heart kinda blew. Lindstrøm, The Flaming Lips, The Walkmen, Ponytail, Yo La Tengo, Matt and Kim, The Thermals, M83, Grizzly Bear….good, good.

Check back soon.

Wave Machines

posted by Justin at 1:47 am.

This group deserves a listen. Wave Machines are out of the UK and could probably be mistaken for a grittier MGMT but I like to think that they didn’t do that on purpose. The track ‘Keep the Lights On’ was a crutch for me in Norway. I found myself singing along to it almost everyday. I think if you listen, you’ll realize why. The group has a slew of dates in Europe in the coming months and released a new 7″ single “I Go I Go I Go” that has me thinking Kyle Minogue meets James Murphy’s percussion with falsetto voice.

The track ‘Keep the Lights On’ is still on top in my book, though. The bass line is real good. Plucky synths, reverbed deep strings, and loose percussion all make me happy.

Wave Machines - I Go I Go I Go

You can download ‘Keep the Lights On’ for free @ WaveMachines.co.uk

Their debut album is out currently on Neapolitan Music in the Uk and received a favorable review from NME.

Video: Passion Pit “To Kingdom Come”

posted by Justin at 1:01 am.

Passion Pit has released a video for the next single off their debut album. Regardless if you’ve had an overload of the Pit lately, it’s an alright video. Doesn’t beat the video for ‘The Reeling‘, though.

Check it about above.

Neon Indian “Terminally Chill”

posted by Justin at 4:38 pm.

Another glassy, summery single from Neon Indian, the side project of VEGA man Alan Palomo, has been released. The man and now woman (Alicia Scardetta) group have been secretly hard at work on a handful of tracks they will be releasing in October. Neon Indian’s earlier songs and now ‘Terminally Chill’ just give me more reason to love this stuff. Add them both to your summer mixes.

Neon Indian - Terminally Chill
Neon Indian - Deadbeat Summer
