Annie’s “Anthonio” & Fred Falke

posted by Justin at 1:45 pm.

Annie - Anthonio (Fred Falke Remix)

And Mr. Falke does it again. Not only is this track dripping with warm synth-pop goodness and a hook that you’ll be singing for the next week, but he turns the original Annie track inside out, creating a brand new song. The track “Anthonio” is a single off Annie’s upcoming album to be released this year. There were some worries about the Norwegian singer’s second album since leaving Island Records in 2008, but after hearing the original and this remix, my worries have turned to excitement. Pure excitement.

The single officially drops May 4th on Black Melody records.

Moby Announces New Album “Wait For Me”

posted by Justin at 9:27 am.

-Mute Records

Mute is set to release Moby’s new album ‘Wait For Me’ on June 30th. The video for the album’s debut track, ‘Shot In The Back Of The Head’, is an animation directed by David Lynch. Watch it here.

A completely DIY effort, Moby recorded the album in his home studio, drew the album artwork with a black sharpie on copy paper, asked his friends to record the vocals, and asked another friend, photographer Jessica Dimmock, to take the press photos.

In addition, friend Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Throbbing Gristle, M83) came on board to help mix the record: “mixing the record with him was really nice, as he’s creatively open to trying anything - like recording an old broken bakelite radio and running it through some broken old effects pedals to see what it would sound like. it’s on the record as a :45 second long track called ’stock radio’“. Moby and Thomas mixed the record using purely analog equipment in true stereo, akin to how records were mixed in the late 60’s. As a result, the songs sound pretty amazing on headphones.

On Wednesday April 15th a free download of “Shot in the Back of the Head” will be available on Moby’s website at www.moby.com.

Cool.

Tiny Masters of Today “Skeletons”

posted by Justin at 2:14 pm.

Tiny Masters of Today premiered a new video for ‘Skeletons’, the title track from their new album out June 16th on Mute Records. Check it!

At just 15 and 12 years old respectively, Tiny Masters of Today’s Ivan and Ada have earned some serious indie rock credentials. The band’s 2007 debut landed them praise from David Bowie, who called their homemade single “genius”, CSS and Liars remixed them, and they recorded w/ Kimya Dawson and Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O and Nick Zinner.

Their sophomore return “Skeletons” is out June 16th and picks up where their debut left off - 11 frantic, punk-informed tracks written and produced by Ada and Ivan in their native Brooklyn.

I wish there were parties like this when I was 12:

Remix Sunday

posted by Justin at 9:23 pm.

I know it’s not Wednesday, but it’s almost 4am here in Norway and I thought I should post some remixes since I haven’t done a remix feature in a while.

The Golden Filter’s remix of Little Boots is by far the best thing I came across. Keeping their own slow tempo, sequenced-synth sound and slowing down the track, The Golden Filter has made something interesting; especially at the midpoint change with the piano. Cool stuff. I am in love with the intro to SebastiAn’s Kills remix, and his build halfway through is stellar. Aeroplane is still on a role since the ‘Paris’ remix. They played in Oslo last night, but unfortunately I am currently too poor to afford 150kr- would’ve been an awesome show. The Belgian guys remix Norway’s own Lindstrøm. And Miami Horror’s rework of an oldie, “Fa Fa Fa”, rounds off this weeks remix feature.

Little Boots - New In Town (The Golden Filter Remix)
The Kills - Cheap and Cheerful (SebastiAn Remix)
Lindstrøm & Solale - Baby I Can’t Stop (Aeroplane Remix)
Datarock - Fa Fa Fa (Miami Horror remix)

See you guys.

Demasi meets Koki’s Compilation II

posted by Justin at 8:49 pm.

I Believe In Me
Download ‘I BELIEVE IN ME’ Here! (@ 320 kbps)

What I love about electronic music is its awesome accessibility. No matter who you are, you can sit down, program some beats, and make yourself a song. Of course this is a pretty big simplification, but my bigger point is that electronic music allows the average teenager to put what’s in his or her head into notes, mess with it, master it, and share it. It scares me how much good, unknown music is out there, floating around Myspace.

Demasi meets Koki is a duo of two Swedish guys doing just the above, but doing it very well. They have been producing music for a couple of years now, releasing a handful of singles and a remix of The Phantom’s Revenge. Over their past year on Myspace, they have made many friends with other electronic producers like themselves- young and talented with new ideas. So a few months back, Demasi and Koki set out to release a compilation of their fellow house producers. The first compilation was a mild success- garnering support from a handful of blogs. A few weeks back the Swedish duo released their second compilation “I Believe In Me” featuring all original tracks by twelve different independent house artists. And today it is being offered by them for a free download! Very, very cool.

I hope you all download this compilation and give it a listen. It is worth it to your ears to hear something that hasn’t gone through a 100k dollar production studio, and worth it to see what else is out there, what’s not on Hypemachine.

Become a friend of Demasi meets Koki at their Myspace.

Louis La Roche “Me & Her EP” Out Now!

posted by Justin at 7:59 pm.

1. Me & Her
2. Be Brave
3. Distant Lovers
4. Sunshine Hotel

Download a free EP preview here!

Ladies and gents, it’s here. The highly anticipated follow-up EP by young UK producer Louis La Roche. ‘Me and Her’ is a 4 course meal of what Louis has been up to. Moving to a bigger and more club-worthy sound, Brett Ewels shows what he is capable of. With more instruments, more filters, and a talk box on hand, this guy is just getting started. After hearing snippets of ‘Sunshine Hotel’ in various mixtapes and on Radio 1, I was most excited to hear the complete track- and it’s great, but what gave me the biggest surprise is number three, ‘Distant Lovers’. There is a lot of cool things happening inside this track. The talk box works great and really gives Ewels’ track somewhere to go. It is also great to hear ‘Be Brave’ re-mastered.

Louis is playing Nuke Them All in London this month (18/4/2009) and is headed for Studio B in Brooklyn, New York the 16th of May. Also, check out the new louislaroche.com.

The EP is available now for download at Beatport.com on EverAfter Records. The release will be available at all fine retailers on the 4th May 2009. Support music! Buy music!

Mirrors “Look At Me”

posted by Justin at 6:41 pm.

Mirrors - Look At Me
Mirrors Myspace

Mirror
1. Something that gives a minutely faithful representation, image, or idea of something else: Gershwin’s music was a mirror of its time.
2. A pattern for imitation; exemplar: a man who was the mirror of fashion. Something worthy of imitation.
3. /Verb/ To reflect as a mirror does
4. /Adjective/ Music. (of a canon or fugue) capable of being played in retrograde or in inversion, as though read in a mirror placed beside or below the music.
5. /Idiom/ With mirrors, by or as if by magic.

Sometimes I come across a song that I get lost in. A track that I can put on and continue what I was doing and not be interrupted with an urge to change the song. This beautifully produced track by Mirrors out of Brighton has had me dreaming for the past week and half. The atmosphere this group manages to communicate in under 4 minutes cannot really be described without taking a listen. Inside ‘Look At Me’ is a hook worthy of any King or Queen of pop. The song is an awesome piece of production. Its presence is extremely wide, yet has room for vocals to float effortlessly over top the entire track. Look at what love has done to me.
