Introducing Hemingway

posted by Justin at 6:25 am.

Hemingway (James Harris) is a good friend of mine. He’s 21, he’s a film student, he lives in Canada, and he makes some wicked cool music. He’s been producing now for a couple of years, but his latest production is a remix of The Virgin’s re-release of “Rich Girls”- and it’s pretty awesome. Originally it was going to be officially released on 50 bones records with the Virgin’s new cut, but unfortunately things fell through- which is pretty lame on their part. However, James has been given permission to release the remix to the masses.

Hemingway describes his style as “yacht funk”. Can you describe your music any cooler than that? His style is definitely funk influenced- smooth, crisp electronic funk. So go on and click below and enjoy this track and marvel at this kid’s production skills.

I’ve also included a remix he did for Pelifics, which is a electronic project out of Oslo, Norway (my current location). It is another must-listen. Check it out, then show Hemingway and Pelifics some love on myspace.

Phoenix “1901″

posted by Justin at 7:50 am.

I’m a little late with this one, but if you haven’t heard it yet and you’re a fan of Phoenix, take a listen. The French group is back this year with a new album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix - to be released May 26. The track beckons back to that classic Phoenix feel I’ve always loved. Check it out below!

Frankpollis now Your Nature

posted by Justin at 12:02 pm.

The four guys of Frankpollis must have had some kind of identity crisis. The group’s 2008 EP was one of my favorites of last year. If you missed it, check out my review here.

Originally, ‘Frankpollis’ was a combination of two of the guy’s names. Recently, though, I stumbled across their myspace to find that they have changed their name to Your Nature. I supposed the name is something better suited to their music, but regardless, band names are hard. I am liking the change, though. Now with a two-word band name (no ‘The’), some new tunes, and a handful of upcoming shows, Your Nature is aiming to make 2009 the year.

I highly highly recommend you listen to this music.

Fred Falke remixes Little Boots

posted by Justin at 8:26 pm.

Fred is the man. Not only does he turn this Little Boots track into a smooth and hypnotic dance floor anthem, but like always, Mr. Falke does it with style. French house king, Fred Falke, is the one to always keep an eye on. His remixes are pure gold. Little Boots just posted this remix on her myspace along with another by Dub Step.

With that classic moving bass line, “I’m going to take you out tonight/ I’m going to show you a real good time”, actually makes sense.
