Part of my job this summer is driving around to all these properties around Chicago and the suburbs, so I spend alot of time in the car. And, without any blank CDs to make a mix or something, my radio is always on. But I am far from complaining. 94.7 rocks. “True oldies”, all day all night. Good song after good song, with rare commercial breaks. I can’t get enough of this station. I spend most of the time in my car frantically writing down lyrics so I can look up songs later and try to download them.

Here’s some songs and great videos I’ve found thanks to Dick Biondi:

Len Barry’s “1-2-3″ has been stuck in my head for the past week. I’m not upset. I want to find out who that girl is in the cage, where she is now, what she was on, and where to learn how to dance like that.

i live on that radio station too- I am constantly emailing Dick Biondi with really vague descriptions of songs (”It sounded like someone trying to impersonate Elvis, singing about a possibly cheating girlfriend, with some floaty backing vocals”) and he comes through every time (”That would be Terry Stafford’s Suspicions, and good ear; it was originally an Elvis tune that never got released! Thanks for listening!”) My one problem is that they very often play the white boy covers of my favorite doo wop and motown tunes, like the Herman’s Hermits version of Sam Cooke’s Wonderful World. Anyway meet you on the Saturday Night Request Line (I’ll be requesting Double Shot of My Baby’s Love)

I grew up on oldies 104.3, as I’m sure many kids did our age in the city and suburbs. I love oldies, and it really took me until at least high school until I even listened to anything alternative.

I just wish every one of these artists could go back and add another minute to their songs. Oldies are so short! I mean, you always want to leave your audience wanting more, and so many songs today are tooooo long. But the Vogues 5 oclock world being 2:15!? PLEASE ADD MORE!

Good to see other people who love the oldies just as much as I do. I used to listen to this station a lot too but now I got sirius radio that has more oldies I never heard before. I like that Len Barry song a lot. It really reminds me of Franki Valli and the Four Seasons. And that Vogues song I think was like the original theme song to the Drew Carey Show…weird.

I grew up on the oldies thanks to my parents. Man, I remember listening to to 104.3 too all the time whenever I was driving with my my dad and mom.

Here are some more oldies tunes for you kool kats:

The Shirelles, “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbxxkwBQk_o

The Chiffons, “He’s So Fine” (before George Harrison shamelessly ripped it off to write “My Sweet Lord”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJXc6JUOUc8

Now these are the “original” girl groups

Whatever it’s all about dance factory on 92.7 at 4 AM when you’re driving to the airport.

My brother subjected me to that (as a joke, I hope) last week when we were driving to O’Hare at 4 in the morning.

Hahha, this is awesome. i love radio talk. there’s something about the radio that our generation has missed. Radio used to be such an important thing, i guess there’s just blogs now.

94.7 sucks. It’s all bubblegum and they have that terrible 70s playlist. Really? “Money for Nothing” counts as “true oldies?”
