bgebs (Brittany) recently started a blog detailing her life and ramblings in the CU. At omgdidyouhearabout, you’ll find the latest dishes on her love of sparks and djs, her escapades in London, and of course graphs detailing which bars she attends (100% Murphys). Since the blog has gone live, just under two weeks ago it has gotten already over 3600 hits. It has shown up on a Craigslist in San Francisco and is the current talk amongst my friends. Imo, it’s hilarious and a great read. She posts a couple times a day and it’s always a satisfying read. Below you’ll find a small IM interview today and don’t miss the remixes at the bottom.
Knowing you mostly as a senior, explain what your freshman year here in the cu was like?
..well freshman year i was kind of all over the place…i lived in the six pack and joined a sorority but started hanging out in urbana all the time and i dont think i really understood where i fit in. eventually I realized though that i could hang out with anybody..as long as there was beer. i think i went out a way too much but it was fun to make friends in two totally different scenes at this school because i think most people never get to do that, and now i even have twice as many facebook friends.
Haha, being a kappa delt, how was living in a sorority?
i have a split opinion on greek life. i love my sorority and the girls in it because they arent at all the stereotypical girls you would expect, i mean they put up with me being so weird all the time. i still am pretty involved in my house and know almost all the girls. i just think in general the greek system in pretty lame and just a social hierarchy of who is cool enough to get into station 211, which isnt exactly my dream hangout. but at the same time, its like when someone hates on your little brother, its only okay when you do it, so i can get defensive when people start hating on sorority girls.
What got you into djs and fashion?
well this summer i spent two months in london and it was the most fun i have ever had, and im usually having a lot of fun so thats saying a lot. i almost went bankrupt going to every club in london because every night was another huge party at some insane club where everyone looked straight off of facehunter and was so fashionable,so i kind of got all wrapped up into that scene. i started hanging out with a bunch of djs and made friends with this band the teenagers, so they showed me the ropes of the shoreditch scene, which was like london hipster central. everyone listens to electro there and i just got addicted to hearing it all the time…and it doesnt hurt that almsot all dj boys are hot. i even got to see some good shows, liek justice and boys noize in paris, and im going with my friends to l.a. to see justice, peaches, and a-trak for new years eve.
Take me with? But, what are your views on urbana vs. champaign?
the two are both pretty ridiculous when you think about it. like how much animal collective and skinny jeans can urbana seriously deal with at one time, and the same goes for champaign with their frat loving and north face jackets. but i’d have to say im siding with urbana….(dont tell my sorority friends)
So where did you get the idea to start a blog? What do you think about its popularity?
im pretty much addicted to the internet and eventually i got sick of reading what other people wrote and i started my own blog about two weeks ago. my mom always told me i was a good writer, but i dont think she wanted me to be using that talent to write about my love of sparks or dj boys, but oh well. i honestly cant imagine that this many people want to read about how much i hate illini clothes or crocs, but it seems like a lot of people have been enjoying it so far, both in champaign and urbana, which has been fun for me.
And to wrap it up, what are your favorite remixes right now?
right now i am loving anything by the bloody beetroots, especially their remix of timbaland’s miscommunication, and the teenagers- homecoming remix by the gentlemen driver’s. and i really like yelle- a cause des garcons (riot in belgium remix) even though its in french and i have absolutey no idea what any of the words are
Timbaland - Miscommunication (Bloody Beetroots Remix)
The Teenagers - Homecoming (Gentlemen Driver’s Rave Remix)
Yelle - A Cause Des Garçons (Riot in Belgium Remix)
