Albert Hammond, Jr.

While the rest of you are recovering from the Strokes third attempt at and album (okay that was a little rough), it’s time to check out what Albert Hammond, Jr. has been up to in the solo department. Man, so much solo work lately. His album, Your to Keep, dropped last year but I just recently got around to getting ahold of it. And, what I hear I’m liking. It’s so reminiscent of The Strokes’ sound, but taken a new way. In some places the vocal may be a little over the top, but I’m not complaining too much.

‘In Transit’ shines in my opinion. It’s the kind of classic song that needs to be played on that good day when you get back from classes, or on that feelin’ good-walk to class. It’s the second track on the album but not the only good gem. ‘Bright Young Thing’ and ‘Call an Ambulance’ definitely stand out in my opinion.

The album is a good addition to your library and fair listen through. On Albert Hammond, Jr.’s myspace he wrote a blog stating he’s currently working on a new album. In terms of the rest of the Strokes, their wikipedia page states that “source close to the Strokes said their new album will be recorded and probably come out sometime in 2008.” (sweet).

Check hypemachine for these tracks. Listen.
