Updates on all of the latest tunes to listen for on WPGU have moved from my blog, All Shook Down, to exactly here. My name is Matt, and I am the Music Director for PGU. Feel free to share your thoughts about how you think we’ve been sounding lately, what you’d like to hear more of, and really anything else you want to tell us. Thanks for listening and here’s the new stuff!

Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart - A definite step away from the songwriting mold of Plans, Death Cab’s new single backs up the band’s claim that their upcoming album moves in new directions. After Gibbard’s fairly weak solo efforts over the last year, I had begun to fear that the well had run dry - not so. This song attempts to be catchy and deep at the same time, and fans of the band will definitely see this song as a great reason to be excited for the new album, Narrow Stairs, which will be released in May.

The Raconteurs - Salute Your Solution - This new song from the Raconteurs is just as cool and interesting as the songs that first gained this band widespread attention - not that they were ever hurting for publicity. Jack White’s energy seems to be doubled when he’s writing for this band. This song definitely pays homage to vintage rock bands, but in a remarkably fresh way. You won’t need to wait to get your hands on this new album - it came out last Tuesday.

Also listen for:
Poney Poney - Cross the Fader
Kate Nash - Pumpkin Soup

Guitar Hero Competition

posted by Matt at 5:42 pm.

The guitar hero competition last night at Brother’s was a fierce battle of the most talented video-game rockstars in the C-U. A huge crowd showed up and the games lasted even longer than expected. Those plastic little guitar controllers were turned into rock and roll making machines, and star-power was everywhere. Photos of the epic event are up. Live vicariously through the glory that was the guitar hero competition and check them out.

Welcome to Inside WPGU!

posted by Lambo at 8:50 pm.

On behalf of the staff of WPGU 107.1FM, welcome to a new function of our most glorious creation, www.the217.com, our Web site. This blog is designed to get you, the loyal listeners and readers involved in the process of creating, promoting and proliferating one of the best local sounds in the Chambana area. From the bands that came up here to the national acts gracing our stages, WPGU is driven to give representation to the musical talent that drives the C-U scene and makes this place a cultural powerhouse in the middle of a cornfield.

This blog is about you. It’s about me. It’s about WPGU and the ways that we work to get out into our community and get into the heart of the music scene. Here, we will be discussing the music selections we make and the promotions we run, but we will also be looking for outside opinions of the work we do on a regular basis. feel free to get involved in the discussion and really let us know what’s great and what sucks, what you want to hear and what you’re tired of.

Ultimately, the decisions made by the staff of WPGU should be representative of our audience, and we want to know when we’ve lost touch or when we’re right on key.

You’ve heard the ads and the liners… WPGU is your true alternative. Make it feel like it.
