Charlie Kaufman, if you didn’t know, is the extremely creative mind behind such films as Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich. In his directorial debut Synecdoche, New York, which he also wrote, it’s sure to have a story unlike anything else you’ve seen in the movie theaters. If it follows the ways of his past written films, we’re in for both a visual and mind-boggling treat. From the preview, I can’t really tell what’s going on, but Philip Seymour Hoffman is a pretty brilliant actor in everything that he’s done. The synopsis sounds even weirder than the trailer. Something about a man who’s a theater director who turns a stage into a mini-city, and wants to put on the most realistic play ever. This movie’s going to weird for sure. If you’ve seen Adaptation you know that Kaufman likes to go against all narrative techniques that you’re used to seeing in a movie (he writes himself into that movie somehow…it’s awesomely twisted). So far there have been mixed reviews for the film, but that’s expected when weird subject matter pops up in films. I’m excited to go see it October 24th in limited theaters. And so should you!
Landon Cassman: Through boredom and pure enjoyment I find myself always involved in either film or music related endeavors. This is one of them.
