Although he hasn’t put out new material in a long time, Ben Folds can still put on a heck of a show. Last night’s Star Course production sold out Foellinger Auditorium!
B. Folds was accompanied by Ben Lee. Mr. Lee entertained the crowd well during some early set difficulties that left him without a guitar feed. I think a lot of people were surprised he was the man behind a lot of hits they have been hearing on the radio (“Catch my Disease” and others).
Mr. Folds brought his grand piano (wow it sucks pushing those up ramps) and some support in the form of drums and bass. The set lasted about an hour and a half, typical of Ben’s shows. The crowd was energized, staying that way long enough to sit outside Foellinger for a glimpse of Ben.
Thank you to everyone who made this a great show!
I really wrote this post just to show off my Ben Folds photo

I disagree - I found Folds to be too polished, and Ben Lee’s personality eclipses his music.

I agree with Carlye to a certain extent. Ben Lee’s music didn’t really impress me all too much, but with what he had to deal with in terms of his lack of guitar feed during the first half of his set, I was really impressive. It would have been really easy for that whole performance to be terrible from the moment he stepped on stage, but he held his own and really kept the audience entertained. I would love to see him with no hitches and see how much I enjoy him.
I’m a casual Ben Folds fan at best, but I would hardly say his show was too polished. I think the fact that he is such a great pianist made his show seem so rehearsed, which is a great testament to how great a musician he really is. He did a lot of things that I have never seen a pop pianist do in concert, and that sets him apart from others I have seen personally. But to each his own.
