Adhering to my older brother’s tastes, my entourage for the night started things off at Esquire.
I knew that someone like my brother, who dislikes a lot of facets that makes up nightlife in CU, or anywhere else, would surely enjoy this bar. (I would say that he generally dislikes anywhere that is not a pub.) The mix of people is pretty diverse age-wise, and it is super laid-back.
With the wonderful warmer weather, it was bearable to sit outside which is always a personal preference for me. Upon the suggestion of the main boss-woman at Buzz (Stephanie Prather), I wanted to try their pineapple-infused tequila—the perfect concoction for those of us who love pineapple, and who love tequila.
I inquired of this seemingly heavenly mix to the bartender, who I always go to as he works the bar in the pool-room for fast service and stiff drinks. What do I mix it with? How much is it? He unexpectedly took on the character of your prototypical small-town bartender—“Well people usually shoot it ‘round here. Or they take it in a margarita.”
I was sold, and it was delicious. Surprisingly salty from the drip of the thick ring of rock salt covering the brim of my glass, but mostly sweet and pleasant, garnished with a fresh slice of pineapple—it brought on fantasies of summer. Of course it was cold enough to have the heat lamps on outside, and I was still wearing a coat, but it was comfortable and a much needed improvement. It wasn’t spring break, but I was happy.
