MTG Conflux Spolier online

posted by Matt Knicl at 5:16 pm.

The new year approaches, as does the next Magic: The Gathering expansion, Conflux, the second set in the Shards of Alara block. The spoiler is up at MTGSalvation.com, one of the largest and most accurate Magic fansites on the net.

Unlike most sets of Magic, which focus on the five colors of Magic cards (which correspond to the different requirements to use the cards) acting solo, or on two color combinations, Alara so far has focused on tri-color combos, each configuration representing a unique location in the Magic universe.

So far of what’s posted, 27 cards as of right now, there are some reprints as well as some fantastic new rares. Cards like Giltspire Avenger and Noble Hierarch are cards that I’m already going to add to my “You Bant Always Get What You Want” deck. This set will hopefully get players psyched for this set, as there is a lot of negative net and store chatter about Shards in comparison with the previously released blocks.

Angels vs. Demons

posted by Matt Knicl at 10:14 pm.

Magic has announced the theme for their next Duel Deck: Divine vs. Demonic. Focusing on a presumably white and black colored deck, featuring Angels and Demons respectively, each deck will focus on those tribes. So far none of the cards have been released, but some contend that the card Akroma, Angel of Wrath will be in the deck due to some promo art that featured a purple-haired angel.

Divine vs. Demonic Set Symbol

These decks will hopefully be as good as the past two special decks, and after seeing the fantastic new symbol for the set, I can’t wait to see these cards. I’m almost more excited for this set than for the second set in Shards of Alara, Conflux.

Magic In The Air

Christmas is in the air and there is money to be made with gifts for the masses. Following last year’s successful Goblins and Elves box set, this year’s theme starter Magic: the Gathering set features the newest card type, the ever powerful planeswalkers, Jace and Chandra.

The decks are 60 card decks theme based on the planeswalkers’ colors - red for Chandra and blue for Jace. Chandra’s deck focuses on direct damage and burn spells, while Jace’s is draw and counter deck. Both decks are playable out of the box and fairly balanced. The inclusion of more uncommons and rares than usual theme decks makes these decks easier and more fun to play.

Featuring new artwork for some cards, including reprints of cards from older sets, this box set is a must have for Magic fans. Not only do you get two powerful planeswalkers, you get classic Magic cards in decks that best demonstrate their colors. The sad thing is was once I got this set, I wanted to see what set would be released next year!

For Magic: The Gathering fans anxiously awaiting the pre-release and launch of the next expansion of the card game the next two weekends, this news is the next best thing to actually cracking open a fresh booster pack. MTGSalvation.com has posted a reliable spoiler of cards’ information, minus the images.

This is the next best thing to Wizards’ visual spoiler, which has the cards in their entirety, though not the complete set. Check out MTGSalvation if you want the edge in upcoming drafts!

Shards of Alara lands availible now

posted by Matt Knicl at 11:50 pm.

It’s not a goof or a hoax! If you buy recently released 10th Edition “Start Here” packs, which include 2 10th Edition booster packs, 20 basic lands, and a foil rare (around $10), then you may get some lands from Shards of Alara.

I just bought this set for the heck of it, and ended up with some random lands from Shards of Alara. The expansion comes out in two weeks, but if you want some mad props from your 733t friends, buying this starter set is not a Shard decision.

New Magic: The Gathering cards revealed online

posted by Matt Knicl at 11:50 pm.

Ajani Vengeant

Magic: The Gathering has posted a few cards from their upcoming set, Shards of Alara, on their website.

These cards show new planeswalkers (including a multicolor one), the new mythic rare card type, artifacts that cost colored mana to play, and generally sweet cards that will redefine the game. Tri-color drafts will be a must, it appears, and minimages will most likely be a really fast, powerful game.

Keep reading as I plan to cover Magic more in depth, including interviews, deck ideas, and card news.

Magic: The Gathering webcomic

posted by Matt Knicl at 5:24 pm.

I Am A Thousand Of Them

Garruk Wildspeaker

I’ve always been a fan of the Magic: The Gathering worlds - even when I stopped playing the game I continued to read the novels based on each expansion. The Magic worlds are influenced by mythology and modern concepts, and the stories that take place in them are always good reads.

Magic.com has posted the first of three webcomics focusing on the planeswalker Garruk Wildspeaker. Written by Flavor Text Editor and recent Eventide development head Doug Beyer, this is a great short story that helps to expand the Magic mythology.
