Mouse Guard, the interview

Mouse Guard: Winter 1152

One of the titles I talked about months ago when covering Archaia Studios Press for the Buzz was Mouse Guard. This is a fun title about mice who live in a medieval time period. I was able to speak with the series’ creator, writer and illustrator David Petersen and ask him a few questions.

Matt Knicl: How did you come to Archaia?

David Petersen: Back in 2002 I went to the Wizard World Comic con in Chicago. I was wandering artist alley and met Mark Smylie. He was self-publishing then and I showed him samples of my work for his opinion. Mark gave me a great portfolio review, very honest, very helpful. So in 2005 when I was at the San Diego comic con with my self-published Mouse Guard and a writer I know said that Mark Smylie’s looking for fantasy titles for his publishing company Archaia Studios Press, I didn’t mind showing him Mouse Guard. He was excited about it and offered to publish the series in color.

I spoke with both authors about the series. Read the rest of this entry »

Silence Is Golden

I was fortunate enough to interview the minds behind Archaia Studios Press’ Hybrid Bastards! after writing about the publisher in my column for The Buzz.

I was able to speak with another comic writer/artist for the sci-fi/art project Misericordia.

Rebekah Brem’s 11-issue series kicked-off this week. The first issue was presented without speech and the story was told with its art. Readers were introduced to a world where humans live underground and robots rule the surface. Read the rest of this entry »

Hybrid Bastards!, the Interviews

By The Beard Of Zeus!

Hybrid Bastards! #1 Cover

Last week in The Buzz I talked about indie comic book publisher Archaia Studios Press and some of their new, unique projects.

One of those titles was the absurd Hybrid Bastards!, a series about Zeus’ various one night stands with inanimate objects, from a car to a brick wall, and the resulting offspring.

The series debuts next week and there will be two more issues in the series, for now at least.

I was lucky enough to get in touch with the writer, Tom Pinchuk, and artist, Kate Glasheen, to talk to them about this… interesting project. Read the rest of this entry »
