More Boomstick For Your Buck
As I mentioned before, I met this crossover with hesitancy. But, after reading the first issue, I can say my fears were laid to rest.
One of those annoying mini-Ashes from Army of Darkness (film) finds a miniature Necronomicon and uses it to time-travel to Xena’s time. Ash goes back to retrieve the aspect of the Necronomicon and stop his tiny self from destroying reality.
You always have to ask if a crossover is necessary - if the characters’ meeting will reveal important aspects of both and meaningfully build upon the character’s mythology. This one doesn’t and knows it, which makes it a hilarious premise. This issue was, of course, set up, but a welcome change of pace from the last AoD crossover Freddy vs Jason vs Ash, which was ultra-violent. Good, but still a horror book. Filled with faeries and giant trolls, this is a fantasy book, which goes to show Ash’s adaptability from genre to genre, and publisher to publisher apparently.
It’s a good book because it’s inherently silly.

I love these zany Fan-Service mashups. Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness was similarly awesome. (Zombie Howard the Duck eating Ash’s brains is an instant classic).
