Who can you trust?
That’s the tagline of Marvel’s 2008 crossover event, Secret Invasion. The Skrulls are an alien civilization of shape-shifters and have been a thorn in Earth’s side for a long time. After Galactus destroyed their homeworld, the Skrulls have set their sights on Earth - a planet their religion states is their promised land.
Instead of taking the planet by force, which never works, they have decided to impersonate key super heroes and other people (this tactic is like the Yeerks’ in Animorphs).
So far the only revealed Skrulls have been Elektra, Black Bolt, The Revolutionary, an Initiative recruit and if the Marvel Holdiay Special 2007 is to be considered canon, an editor at the Daily Bugle.
Some of the Skrulls are sleeper agents and have no idea they aren’t who they think they are. I’m sure Captain Marvel is a Skrull, and who is that I see in the middle left… Howard the Duck!? At any rate, this series has been 5 years in the making and will shapeshift the Marvel Universe into something new.
