Ashley “Ash” Williams is creating quite the resume these days. Not only is he an S-Mart employee, but fresh off this adventures in his own series and fighting the Marvel Zombies Ash seeks to destroy more Deadite zombies in the form of two of horror’s largest slashers.
Jason Vorhees and Freddy Krueger have met before in the movie Freddy vs. Jason. There was supposed to be a movie sequel to this clash, featuring Bruce Campbell as Ash, but the movie fell apart. Luckily this story that needs to be told has made its way to comics as a joint project between DC’s Wildstorm imprint and Dynamite Entertainment.
Ash’s mission is to destroy the Deadites, zombie creatures brought forth by the Book of the Dead, the Necronomicon. Hidden conveniently near Camp Crystal Lake and Elm Street, the Necronomican is sought after by Freddy to make himself flesh. Using the dimwitted Jason, Freddy sends the murderous hockey fan on a ravenous S-Mart killing spree. This 3rd issue in the 5-part series puts the Necronomicon in Freddy’s hands and Freddy into Ash’s dreams.
Unlike most crossovers that add little to the characters, in Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash each franchise bounces off each other. Jason is a Deadite created by the Necronomicon and Freddy hangs around this area because he wants the book.
And if you like gratuitous violence, this is your comic. Jason’s killing methods are… ingenious. He uses a shopping cart like a cheese grater on one customer and feeds a mouthy manager a clipboard.
But, if you don’t like this crossover, wait until March, when Ash meets a certain warrior princess in Army of Darkness/Xena Why Not? #1!

[…] This issue was, of course, set up, but a welcome change of pace from the last AoD crossover Freddy vs Jason vs Ash, which was ultra-violent. Good, but still a horror book. Filled with faeries and giant trolls, this […]
