March 2008 Comic Solicitations

The comic publishers send their product descriptions to Diamond Comic Distributors, the comic book supplier to most comic book stores for North America three months in advance.

This March there are dozens of great titles to preorder.

Marvel:

    Avengers Fairy Tales #1 - Just like the Spider-man and X-Men fairy tale miniseries, these issues will be one-shot reimaginings of classic stories using variations of Avengers characters. This issue will be Peter Pan.

    Avengers: The Initiative Vol. 1 - Basic Training TPB - Dan Slott’s (She-Hulk) take on super hero registration and boot camp. Hilarious and dark, this is one of the best series written today.

    Cable #1 - The son of Cyclops from the future breaks away from Deadpool in his own series.

    Cable Classic Vol. 1 TPB - In celebration of the new Cable series, this will reprint Cable’s origin and early appearances from the 90s.

    Dark Tower: The Long Road Home #1 - Following the success of Stephen King’s Dark Town: Gunslinger Born comic, The Long Road Home explores more of Roland Deschain’s past.

    Incredible Hercules #115 - Hercules goes toe-to-godly-toe with his brother and Avenger, Ares.

    The Last Defenders #1 - Nighthawk, Colossus, Blazing Skull, and She-Hulk reform the team that is not a team, The Defenders!

    Logan #1 - Written by Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Runaways, Lost), this miniseries deals with more of Wolverine’s past.

    New Avengers #39

    New Avengers #39 - David Mack returns to illustrate a story about the deaf martial arts master, Echo.

    Secret Invasion Saga #1 - A look at the events leading up to Marvel’s 2008 crossover event Secret Invasion and it’s FREE!

    X-Men: Die By The Sword TPB - The crossover between the British X-Men, Excalibur, and the X-men from various dimensions, the Exiles.

    Young Avengers Presents #3 - This one-shot will explore the young counterparts Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, Speed and Wiccan, the sons of Scarlet Witch and Vision.

    Batman: The Killing Joke Special Edition TPB - Most likely to coincide with the new Batman movie, this collection reprints the classic Alan Moore story that redefined the Joker and paralyzed Batgirl.

    Countdown to Final Crisis #8-5 - It’s almost here - the massive crossover for DC in 2008 that will completely alter the universe for years to come. All the storylines will begin to wrap up as these issues come out, one per week.

    Fables #71 (Vertigo) - The spy savant Cinderella is back!

    Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash #6 (Wildstorm) - The almost movie wraps up as Ash tries to cleanse the world of the Necronomicon and the terrors of Elm Street and Camp Crystal Lake.

    Justice League: The New Frontier Special - A new one-shot by Darwyn Cooke that follows up on the DC: The New Frontier series that is going to be a straight-to-DVD animated movie.

    Justice Society of America #14 - The mystery behind the murders of super heroes’ families begins to unravel as the Superman of Kingdom Come continues to adjust to this new world.

    Shazam: The Greatest Stories Ever Told TPB - Finally! A collection of Captain Marvel stories to help me forget that DC replaced Billy Batson with Freddy Femur, including the origin story from Whiz Comics in the 40s.

    Wonder Woman: Who Is Wonder Woman? HC - Written by Allan Heingberg (Young Avengers, The OC, Grey’s Anatomy), this run was the One Year Later storyline for Wonder Woman after the events of Infinite Crisis. This is the first time the issues are recollected in the order they were indented to be read, as opposed to how they were actually published, where the last issue was delayed due to behind-the-scenes issues.
