Happy Halloween!

This week Wednesday, new comic book day, fell on Halloween, which means many of this week’s books are themed after the holiday.

Jack of Fables #16 (DC/Vertigo) -
Jack regales us with a tale of when he was Jack of the Lantern, much like when he was Jack Frost. Scouring the countryside of the Homelands, Jack barters for his soul with various incarnations of the Devil, from the Appalachian Old Scratch to the angel Lucifer.

The First Death #2 Marvel Zombies VariantThe First Death #2Anita Blake Vampire Hunter: The First Death #2 (Marvel) -
Finally Laurell K. Hamilton concludes her story of Anita Blake’s first major case, often referred to in the book series, which until now had always been talked about, not shown.
The comic also features a variant cover pitting Anita against the Marvel Zombies, even though, at the moment, they are part of two separate universes.

DC Infinite Halloween SpecialDC Infinite Halloween Special (DC) -
13 Halloween stories are contained in this special one shot, featuring Robin, the Joker, Zatanna, Vampire Batman, the Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, Lobo, Batzarro, Shadowpact’s Blue Devil, and many others.
Told by the inmates of Arkham Asylum, this horrific Canterbury Tales features dozens of writers and artists working together.

The Last Iron Fist Story TPBThe Immortal Iron Fist: The Last Iron Fist Story TPB (Marvel) -
Finally in paperback, this collection features Matt Fraction (Punisher: War Journal) and Ed Brubaker’s (Captain America, Daredevil) take on this hero for hire.
Now an Avenger, this collection sends Danny Rand on a quest to discover his power’s origin.

Justice Society of America #10Justice Society of America #10 (DC) -
Torn from the pages of Kingdom Come, The JSA finds a new Superman in their presence.
Featuring a full two-page scene revisiting the acclaimed graphic novel painted by original artist Alex Ross, this series continues to reinvent the wheel.
