Adieu, Adieu, To You And You And You

posted by Carlye at 1:40 pm.

(I was a theatre kid. It happens.)

As of today, Awkward City, Population 1 will no longer be on The217.com. If you still want to hear me rant and rave and bitch and moan, bookmark the new site, AwkCity.com

Thanks for reading, thanks for the comments, and thanks for listening.

Adios,

Carlye

PS - Like American Apparel? Like me? Like the song “Two Become One” by the Spice Girls? Good, because it has happened.

Fork and Knife

I’m working on the Spoon blogpost now. I know, its taken forever, but I’ve been bogged down with workz.

Coming soon…

I went to TGI Friday’s for the first time ever last night, and was completely shocked at how hotel-like the bathrooms were. I thought they were going to be really tacky and cheap-looking (like the obnoxious pop culture-entertainment decor around the restaurant), so I was completely surprised when I saw this.

About TGI Fridays, though — my boyfriend bought a chocolate/angel food cake combination for about $4.50, and it was less than a half-inch thick, had a sad drizzle of what must have been plain Hershey’s chocolate syrup and was as big as the circle made from connecting your two pointer fingers together and your thumbs together. $4.50 for three bites of cake? Stop watching Top Chef, TGI CEOs — you don’t run a gourmet restaurant, and that’s not a real amount of food.

I Was There: Local Music Awards/Memphis On Main Charity Show

posted by Carlye at 12:48 pm.

[I was trying to install a Flickr plugin, but since this blog is operated by someone else (The217.com), I couldn’t do it. This might take a bit to load, but the files are half the size they typically are, so it shouldn’t be too bad.]

Local Music Awards:

Michael Coulter tells inappropriate jokes, half the audience gets awkward.

Agent Mos. I’d never heard him perform, but he was enjoyable, even if most of my brain energy was devoted to being intimidated by the other (real) photographers.

Hello, Yoho.

Memphis on Main.

I’ve seen Zmick a handful of times, but they’ve got their shit together and it sounds great:

Snowsera dressed the part to say the least. I had never seen them live, but the crowd went crazy for them. People were screaming their tiny heads off.

(Must have been the vests.)

And Memphis on Main, once again.

Until Elsinore’s show, the crowd seemed older and significantly less full of students, but by the time they hit the stage, the LMAs had ended and the crowd slowly filled in with people from next door. The show was fantastic and their new music is incredibly good. If you haven’t heard “The General,” stop reading this and listen to it right now.

Breaking The Silence

posted by Carlye at 11:29 am.

I don’t care if you go to the Local Music Awards or the charity show at Memphis on Main. Just go to something.

EDIT: Larry is correct. There’s an amazing show at Canopy too tonight, and if I had a car, I’d be running between all three. If you’re on campus, drop by the hip-hop event, since from what I remember, it’s $7 for 7 hours of music. But, once again — this time including Canopy’s big-billed show — go to something.

I Have A Computer!

posted by Carlye at 3:32 pm.

Well, a computer without all of my passwords, documents, Microsoft Office, bookmarks of favorite websites, shortcuts, or a working copy of iChat. But, I think there’s already Leopard installed on the new hard drive…so I saved $80!

Too bad Leopard doesn’t have Microsoft Word.

I Jumped The Gun With That Last Headline.

posted by Carlye at 1:04 pm.

Oh, hello! How are you? Haven’t heard from me in a while? Maybe its because my computer’s hard drive status is “failing,” spelled out in bright red, “this is an emergency!” font.Yep, that’s right: My laptop has passed away.It decided to die on me last night when I started doing work.Staying up all night and waking up early to painstakingly attempt to drag documents and photos file by file into my external hard drive didn’t help too much, since it took at minimum one whole minute to load each thing I did. (clicking on something? one minute. picking it up to drag somewhere? one minute.) I thankfully got some things to stay on the external, but that was only after six hours of drag n’ dropping.I should have my computer (with a new hard drive containing none of my old stuff on it) tomorrow or the day after, but if you know how attached to my laptop I am, feel free to wear black and/or grovel in support of my tragedy.

April Showers, May Flowers…March Heatwave?

posted by Carlye at 4:01 pm.

I love how CU is so bitterly cold that when it reaches 44 degrees like it did today, we fully misinterpret it as being spring and sit outside, hang on the quad and play frisbee. I sat outside in a cardigan eating a Turkey Avocado sammich from Espresso Royale today until I realized that my hands were numb since, you know, it’s still winter.

Big Apples and Huge Pretzels

I’ll be in NYC from tomorrow morning until Saturday night. I’ll try my best to blog, but if it becomes a bit barren and you’re bored out of your mind, I apologize in advance. Just think - if Pitchfork.tv was out now, there wouldn’t be a problem!

Wow. I can’t stop looking at that delicious dough in my mouth. Mmmmmm. Four days in NYC = bare minimum four pretzels.

Langerado!

posted by Carlye at 4:57 pm.

Zack, my friend/boss/self proclaimed No. 1 fan of this blog has set up a blog of his own called Festival Crashers where he will be previewing and covering his expectedly ridiculous experience at Langerado Music Festival this week. Make sure to check it out and remember that as miserable as it is here, summer festival season is right around the icy corner.
