Saturday Procrastination

posted by Carlye at 2:33 pm.

I’ve had an itch to go thrifting since I had to go back and re-bookmark some of my favorite fashion blogs, so I pushed the nagging “column-journ midterm-to do list” thoughts aside, gave in, and got some cute things:

This statue is almost frightening in a Wisconsin Dells tourist trap kind of way, but something feels so childish and “ice cream parlor” about it that I couldn’t pass it up:

This bizarre ceramic rope owl is so much better than my clear plastic piggy bank:

Baubles!

And a southwestern bowl to keep all of the jewelry on my desk in:

Then, I snuck into Sam’s Club for lunch. My boyfriend and I almost got kicked out…but then he saved the day! Hot dogs, pizza, lemonade, salad, soft pretzels and cheese and ice cream — definitely worth an attempt to weasel your way in.

If the convenience store next to Canopy is starting to serve its $1 fro-yo cups, Spring must be around the corner.

My Heart Will Be Blessed With The Sound of Music

Wait…Spencer and Heidi stayed in seperate hotels in Las Vegas and barely spoke off-camera? Could this mean that The Hills is…fake? No way. No. way. Jose.

Buy Two Get One Free

posted by Carlye at 10:33 pm.

Going to see New Pornographers and Okkervil River on April 20th in Chicago?

Congrats, you are the luckiest person in the world.

As part of Green Apple Music Festival, there will be free shows at Lincoln Park Zoo that afternoon, and DEREK TRUCKS BAND is headlining.

All three bands in one day, with one being outdoors and free?!? The only way it could get better is if Susan Tedeschi comes onstage, and if she does, I’m going to faint. (Probably because I’m a pale weakling and I’ll be in the sun, but she is totally pass-out-worthy.)

Check out Pitchfork’s Forkcast today — my friend Arthur’s comedy troupe Pangea 3000 is featured for a video they made about The Beatles! The video’s a little out there, so make sure to check these other hilarious clips of theirs.

Another Day, Another Anti-Meth Advertisement.

posted by Carlye at 3:44 pm.

Something along the lines of, “You never thought you’d scratch your skin off. Meth can change that.” The pool of blood in the sink anti-meth ad? Almost as thrilling as the hospital ad, but nowhere near as invigorating as the rusty, condemned bathroom you “never thought you’d lose your virginity here!” anti-meth ad.

I can’t stop thinking about Meth. The weird thing is, if they were trying to PROMOTE the drug, they’d be doing a really, really good job of it. The ads are everywhere!

I Have A Computer!

posted by Carlye at 3:32 pm.

Well, a computer without all of my passwords, documents, Microsoft Office, bookmarks of favorite websites, shortcuts, or a working copy of iChat. But, I think there’s already Leopard installed on the new hard drive…so I saved $80!

Too bad Leopard doesn’t have Microsoft Word.
