Hockey - WPGU remote

Well I pretty much just experienced one of the most emberassing moments of my life.
I had to attend a WPGU remote for my 217 internship - which pretty much just means I had to go to the Hockey game Friday night and help out WPGU by handing out cards to invite people to the tailgate on saturday, and ask people to give shout outs to the hockey players. No big deal. And it was pretty fun until half time came around and I was asked to go out onto the ice for WPGU’s halftime give away. So I guess at half time three people get a chance to shoot a goal in order to win some sort of prize. So the person in charge just told me to go out by the goal and stop the pucks with my feet or hands and send them back. Just basically act like a goalie. Ya that sounds simple enough but apparently I am not very smart, because I tried to block the pucks from entering the goal, when I was just really supposed to retrieve the one’s that missed the goal. You think that would be obvious in itself, but to add to my embarrassment, there was a giant block of wood with three small holes in front of the goal … so me trying to block the pucks was obviously unnecessary. Maybe I was just having a blond moment, but I’ll just blame my stupidity on the lack of sleep I have been receiving for the past two weeks. (Still, I’m cringing inside… I didn’t really even want to write about this on my blog…). Basically I looked like an idiot, the crowd booed me, and I got called off of the ice by some angry looking official whose gestures and expression were so pointed and angry which was more disheartening than the booing. Um… what can I say?

And if the night couldn’t get any worse…. we accidentally stole some little kids hockey pucks. The kids were playing with some pucks near the WPGU hockey sticks and we thought they were our pucks. We asked the kids if we could have them back to use for the halftime thing, and they gave them too us, so I mean, we really did think the pucks belonged to WPGU. But when we got off the ice the kids wanted the pucks back, and the only people around were the217.com interns, and we didn’t know what to do. We called the person who was in charge but we thought she said “they are our pucks.” Only, when we brought them back to the lobby we found out that they weren’t actually our pucks. So we tried to find those poor kids to return them but we couldn’t see them anywhere. So we ended up leaving them on the mats in the back where the kids had been playing before… so I really hope they went back to that spot and found them. :/

I couldn’t even go out after the hockey game because I had too much homework that I have been procrastinating on.

It was kind of a rough night.
