Lionhead announces Fable 2 announcement

posted by nikki at 11:15 am.

Apparently, there’s going to be some Fable 2 related news tomorrow. But that’s all they can tell us today over at the Fable 2 Development Blog. Of course, the last time they announced that they were announcing something, it turned out that they that they jumped the gun and couldn’t announce it for another week.

Here’s hoping that tomorrow’s news (if we get to hear it, this time) is related to the See the Future add-on that was revealed earlier this month… like something more specific than “coming in May”.

Read the official announcement of the impending announcement here.

Bioshock on PS3 has a teaser for the sequel

posted by nikki at 9:40 am.

Yay! More Bioshock!

Apparently, one of the unlockables in Bioshock for PS3 (which comes out next week) is a short teaser trailer for Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams. The minute and a half video shows what looks to be a Little Sister standing at the shore on the Atlantic Coast, gazing out at the sea and holding a Big Daddy doll as stone obelisks rise out of the ground behind her.

The developer hasn’t commented on the early leak of the trailer, but rumor has it 2K Marin is aiming for a late 2009 release date for the game.

Now… Would you kindly watch the video?

The Sims movie… is gonna suck

posted by nikki at 1:33 pm.

Collider.com has posted an interview with John Davis, producer of the in-the-works Sims movie, and frankly, I’m not all that impressed with what he has to say on the subject (and not just because his rambling is a touch hard to understand at times).

Not that I expect a whole heck of a lot from movies based on video games, but still…

“The Sims, as you know, you can control your imaginary world, right? And our movie, a young man, a 16 year old kid of a 14 year old kid and his friend get their hands on this thing called the Sims Infinity Pack, right…”

Annnnnnnnnd freeze. Really? Can it be? The Sims Infinity Pack? Not only a gimicky and remarkably convenient plot device, but also contrived and overdone. Thumbs up, pal.

Moving on.

“… which kind of this very strange video game store which was there just for that moment, and seemingly wasn’t all that. But what they realize is that they can scan their world in, because this is the most life like, real Sims game ever. And as they are playing this they are all of a sudden realizing is what they are playing on the game is having an effect on the real world. So in effect, through the game, they are able to control their world. It’s wish fulfillment, and obviously it turns against them.”

Hey, wait… Is this starting to sound familiar to anyone else?

“Exactly. Exactly! And definitely there will be somebody coming out of the game into the real world, like “Weird Science” did.”

*face plam*

“I wanna make a Amblin-esque, really fun adventure movie…”

So now The Sims is an adventure movie. Please just stop. Seriously, just stop.

“… because I think the third act is great, because obviously there is a nemesis, and the nemesis gets his hands on the game in the third act and he’s now set up this incredible obstacle course of incredible things that you can only do through your Sims game that our heroes have to go through before the game becomes permanent and they’re forever screwed, and they have got to defeat that nemesis. So it’s got some big great fun, adventure set pieces, and whatever their imagination is creates the world.”

This is Bob…

Yikes.

Now, I heard rumors of a Sims movie ages ago. Personally, I pictured a comedy… because god knows Sims families are more than dysfunctional enough to be absolutely hilarious.

To be honest, I had pictured the typical Sims family moving into a real world neighborhood, complete with unknown invisible force from beyond directing their every move as the “normal” neighbors look on, trying to figure out why these people feel the need to trap themselves in doorless rooms, electrocute themselves with the industrial strength bug zapper, and wet themselves on a regular basis.

The father would, of course, be played by Bob from the Enzyte commercials.

Maybe that’s just me.

If the rumors are true, July 13 will be a good day.

I’m sure just about anyone who follows gaming news on teh intrawebz has already heard the rumors and speculation regarding a price drop for the XBOX 360 Pro. Microsoft has yet to comment, but the evidence that it’s more than rumor has been steadily building over the past few weeks with leaked fliers and internal memos from retailers advertising a new low price of $299.99 for the console, effective on Sunday, July 13.

JoyStiq recently added an internal corporate memo sent in by an anonymous GameStop manager to the collection… they’ve even assembled a nice little gallery of the various pieces of evidence.

For those of us who already have a 360, here’s to hoping that Sony will soon follow suit in order to compete, and drop the price of the PS3 to more affordable levels. I wanna get me one before the next millenium.

Beyond “Beyond Good & Evil”?

posted by nikki at 10:49 am.

beyond-good-evil.jpg

You may recall last week a post of mine that spotlighted a little PS2 game called Beyond Good & Evil… an awesome game that just didn’t get the respect it deserved and left off with an annoyingly open ending that implied more to come (which unfortunately never came).

Well, apparently Ubisoft has not only been planning a sequel, they’ve actually been working on it for more than a year now. According to an interview the game’s creator gave to JeuxVideo, the game is in pre-production. That’s the good news.

Here’s the bad. Ubisoft hasn’t yet bumped this into full official production mode yet. So basically it’s been confirmed that the title is not officially confirmed yet. Come on, Ubisoft. Green light this one already!

Is the DS breeding again?

posted by nikki at 1:56 pm.

Today’s rumor, courtesy of Bloomberg Japan (via Kotaku, and about six dozen other sites), has to do with this year’s upcoming E3 and the possibility that Nintendo will announce that the DS and the DS Lite have mated to produce some sort of illicit offsrping.

Nintendo has yet to comment on the veracity of the rumor that there’s a new design for the DS in the pipeline, but it certainly has gaming websites buzzing. Nearly every other gaming blog and news site I frequent has info on it, and as a few of them have already pointed out, it’s not completely impossible (especially since the PSP has been outselling the DS in Japan by a pretty significant margin lately).

So that begs the question… what might they change about the DS?
