Looking to kill 12 minutes?

posted by nikki at 12:10 pm.

Counting the hours before Re: Chain of Memories is in your hands while simultaneously doing what you’re actually paid to do requires a break every once in awhile, right? See how you do on this…

Can you name the Video Game Systems (released in the U.S.)? quiz where you must name every U.S.-released gaming console you can think of in 12 minutes.

My best was 39 out of 69.

Casual Fridays

posted by nikki at 1:49 pm.

If you’re sitting around bored today, why not head on over to AddictingGames.com and try out a nifty Flash game called Fantastic Contraption? The goal of this puzzle game is it move the pink ball to the pink gold by building your own motorized contraption. It’s addictive.

Casual Fridays

posted by nikki at 2:21 pm.

It’s Friday. Time to slack off and do as little as possible, right? Unless you’re me, in which case (just in case the boss is reading this) I’m working diligently and tirelessly, not taking any breaks or speaking to coworkers about non-work-related topics. So let’s see some fun Friday time-wasters!

Escape the Phone Booth
I love escape games. The Afro-Ninja escape series are especially entertaining (and many of them are fairly quick, which make them perfect for a lunchbreak distraction). You should definitely check them out

Orange Runner
Run really, really fast, and avoid the inconveniently placed buzz saws… and if you get challenged by a mysterious man in black, be sure to beat him. Funny thing though… the runner’s not actually orange.

MINDFEED
It’s really more of a quiz than a game, but I still found it fun. And the bagels and orange juice at the end were nice.

Mahjongg
Who doesn’t enjoy a quick round of Mahjongg?

The Stupid Test 4
Are you stupid? Find out.

Today on Another Castle, more fun things to do when you really should be working!

TypeRacer - Race your cab against other players by typing phrases faster than the other players. I found this in my inbox this morning, courtesy of the person who signs my paycheck. Does that give me free license to play it all day instead of working?

Desktop Tower Defense - Imagine that you are innocently working when suddenly your desk is invaded by a swarm of tiny creatures, presumably bent on world domination! You must destroy them by positioning equally tiny defensive structures.

Portal: The Flash Version - A Flash clone of the popular Portal game. Maybe not as great as the real thing, but nifty if you need a fix.

The World’s Hardest Game - For those sadists among you out there. You’re a red square. Avoid the blue dots. Reach the green beacon.

Open Doors - The game where you… open doors. But there’s a catch. Some doors only open certain directions. Some close behind you. How will you ever escape?!

Falling Bush - It’s not really a “game”, to be honest, but it’s still fun. Bush falls down a bottomless pit. If he gets stuck, give him a tug and let him fall some more. Swing him around. Smack him into things. Bush doesn’t mind.

50 States - How well do you really know your state geography?

Go ahead… waste some time. You know you want to.

Ever have one of those moments where you just really, (I mean REALLY) need a five minute break from staring at line after line after line of endless PHP code that isn’t working right and you can’t for the life of you figure out why? No? Just me?

Sometimes the solution to a problem comes to you when just stop thinking about it altogether for a few minutes. That’s why I keep a list of quickie online games that are perfect for killing a few minutes handy.

Run or Die
The title pretty much says it all. Run. Or you die.

Line Rider
Draw a line, and the little guy rides down it. Simple, but spectacularly amusing.

The Last Stand
Kill Zombies. Isn’t that enough?

The Helicopter Game
Fly the helicopter. Try not to crash.

game, game, game, and again game
The only word for this is “bizarre”.

And for those of you with a little more than 5 extra minutes to kill, try the Submachine series.
